14 Weeks Pregnant – Welcome to the Second Trimester

You’re 14 weeks pregnant during pregnancy week 14 – and just like that, you’ve crossed into the second trimester!

It’s often called the golden trimester, and for good reason. For many people, this is when the fog starts to lift: nausea might ease up, energy begins to return, and you start to feel (a little more) like yourself again. The first scan of pregnancy week 14 might be behind you, and you’re starting to get your head around the idea that this is actually happening.

Here’s what’s going on during pregnancy week 14.

🧠 Your Baby at 14 Weeks Pregnant

Your baby is now about the size of a lemon (we won’t do weekly fruit comparisons, promise — just this once). At around 8.5cm long and weighing about 40–45g, they’re now fully formed and just focused on growing, maturing, and moving.

Their tiny body is doing some big work this week:

👅 They’re starting to practise sucking and swallowing

💨 They can now frown, squint, and even hiccup

🧠 Their brain is developing rapidly

🧒 They’re beginning to grow hair — on the head and even eyebrows

And while you probably won’t feel it yet, your baby is moving constantly — wiggling, turning, and stretching as they get used to their new body.

🤰 Pregnancy Symptoms at 14 Weeks

Some people feel amazing at this stage — but not everyone. If you’re still exhausted or battling nausea during pregnancy week 14, you’re not behind. Hormones don’t follow a schedule.

Common symptoms at 14 weeks pregnant can include:

Fewer waves of nausea (finally!)

More energy — or at least fewer naps

Constipation (thanks, progesterone)

Headaches

A more noticeable bump

A new level of hunger — your appetite may return with gusto

📝 Tip: Keep an eye on headaches or dizziness. They’re common, but if they’re intense or come with visual changes, always speak to your midwife.

💬 Can People Tell Yet?

Maybe! Maybe not. At 14 weeks pregnant, some people are showing a definite bump, others still look exactly the same. Everyone carries differently, especially with a first baby — and trust me, it’s not a competition.

If you’re ready to share your news more widely during pregnancy week 14, this is often the time people do — but there’s no rule. It’s your pregnancy, your timeline.

💡 What Should I Be Thinking About This Week?

It’s a good week to:

Book your 16-week midwife appointment if it’s not already in the diary

Start thinking about antenatal classes — they book up quickly

Look into what you might be entitled to in terms of maternity leave and pay

Begin gentle pregnancy-safe exercise, if you’re feeling up to it (our Pregnancy Yoga class is a great place to start!)
