13 Weeks Pregnant – Nearly Into the Second Trimester

You’re 13 weeks pregnant, which means you’re almost through the first trimester – deep breath, you’re doing it. This is an exciting milestone in pregnancy week 13.

This is the week where many people start to feel a tiny flicker of relief. The early weeks (with all their secrecy, worry, and relentless nausea) are nearly behind you, and you might be feeling a little more like yourself again. Hormones like progesterone and oestrogen are still doing their thing, but the rollercoaster can start to ease off now in pregnancy week 13.

Here’s what’s happening in week 13 of pregnancy.

👶 Your Baby at 13 Weeks

Your baby now weighs around 25 grams and is about 7.5–8cm long — roughly the size of a peach. Tiny bones are starting to harden, especially in the arms and legs, and they’re already moving around like they own the place (even if you can’t feel it yet). During pregnancy week 13, their growth continues steadily.

Inside your bump:

🧠 The brain is developing rapidly

🧍 External genitals are forming — but still too early to be sure on a scan

💪 Baby is flexing muscles and practising little movements

👃 Tiny facial features are taking shape — nose, lips, even vocal cords

And they’re now producing amniotic fluid, which helps cushion and protect them as they grow. This development is part of what happens during pregnancy week 13.

🤰 13 Weeks Pregnant – Common Symptoms

Some first trimester symptoms might be easing off this week (hallelujah), but don’t be surprised if others are still hanging around. Or if some new ones pop up. Because pregnancy likes to keep things… interesting.

You might notice:

Nausea easing up (though not for everyone)

More energy

Headaches

Bloating and trapped wind

Constipation

Thicker hair and stronger nails

A visible bump starting to emerge

This is often the point where people start to think, “Maybe I actually look pregnant now, not just like I’ve eaten a big lunch.”
